My First Wedding

I dont even know how everything started, the only thing I remember is my sister and the bride (our friend) convincing me to do this…I have always been told that I made great floral arrangements but it never dawned on me that I could do this as something lucrative.

This is how it all started…

This was a winter wedding, to be more exact, a New Year wedding, 01/01/2011. The bride is a fun, very energetic woman who gave me the freedom to create all the designs. Her main color was Fuchsia and she wanted a winter twist on the arrangements. With these simple commands in mind the planning started!!!

This was my first flower arrangement for someone else other than my family and close friends. This was for a wedding, I was completely nervous. There was not a day I would not think twice in give up this opportunity and let someone else with more experience do the job. I didn’t want to ruin her special day!

One question in particular would pop in my mind all the time…… ” What in the world are you doing??? You never did any arrangements for anyone else, besides your mom and friends that would always encourage you, even if the arrangement would be dreadful ( mom’s love, always see the beauty in their kids projects and friends will only sometimes say the truth).”

But I kept on going, every time the Bride asked me how things were going I would reply ” It’s all great!” and every time I would ask myself…are you sure?

The wedding day was finally here…We worked overnight, I didnt even notice when midnight approched and the New Year was here…” Happy 2011!” – my parents yelled and I heard the champagne popping. That meant I only had five hours to finish everything…. no sleep for me!

Arrangement after arrangement being done… flowers everywhere… and the most important of all, the bride’s bouquet needed to be done!!! I had never been so stressed out in my life, this needed to be perfect. But what is perfect??? There was no more time to give up, the only thing I could wish for was for the bride not to cry when she looked at the arrangements.

As we walked into the bridal suite I was so nervous that I couldn’t stop shaking. There she was, the bride, getting her make up done and all the bridesmaids surrounding her with their playfull, joyful excitement that all weddings makes you feel.

I decided to let the bride finish her make up and we jumped out the suite to find the groom and the other groomsmen. Time to put the bouteniers. Okay, no one was poked with the pins! This is a good sign!

The bride is ready for her bouquet…heart beating fast. I saw a smile, heard a thank you, and felt excitment coming from her. OKAY, this is good, she liked it!

The ceremony was just beautiful, one could feel the love in the air and how cozy the Notre Dame Mansion Hall turned into. Everyone was so happy and excited to see our dear friend happy and sharing her happiness with those that mattered to her.

Im nervous…. the ceremony was over and now everyone was heading to the reception! Oh boy! Here we go again… our last stop. Center pieces and cake was all set and ready to be admired by everyone.

The cake was just beautifull, well my dear sister, the cake decorator, made the cake and it was just stunning! Arrangements were placed in each table and for the bride, a small touch of love and a white rose in the center for luck on her marriage.

So far everything was going well, many people told us that everything was so beautiful and romatic.

The reception was wonderfull, I loved the simplicity of the wedding which allowed love to be overwealmingly present.

Floral Expressions by Cristina was founded on January 2011 and I have just a simple mission in mind, which is to create an unique design for your special event.

I just love working with flowers and everyday I’m trying to learn more and more about this business.

I am currently involved with Seasonal Celebrations as an intern under the supervision of the amazing designer Laurie Keit. In this intership I am acquiring an inside view of this wonderful business. Floral designing can bring so much satisfation to the designer and to the client. I am learning so much each time I am part of a new event.

Many do not understand what it takes to create a unique design for a client. Being an intern shows me that one needs to be passionate and dedicated to what one does.

Loving this business makes it all so much easier to understand that flowers are not just simply flowers. Each type of flower/plant requires a different type of care and design. It is so interesting to see that once a design has been completed, it becomes much more than an idea. It becomes a reality, a concrete creation that will make someone’s dream wedding, a birthday or a simple expression of “I love you” so much more special.
